NORDEN
is a busy and attractive little village located
on the Rochdale-to-Blackburn road, and adjacent
to the affluent residential area of Bamford.
At the heart of the village is the War Memorial,
St Paul's Church and the cricket ground all
set against the backdrop of the distinctively-shaped
Knowl Hill.
A network of footpaths from Norden's bus terminus
opens up access to some of the region's best
countryside and tells a fascinating story of
its industrial past. The Rochdale Way links
the notable places to visit of this area.
A short stroll from the village centre is the
very popular Three Owls Bird Sanctuary. The
village itself offers a good range of shops
and some excellent pubs.
Carry on driving through the village and on
the right, first you will find 'The Manor',
a Brewsters family pub with indoor play room;
further on is the exclusive Nutters Restaurant,
owned by the TV personality chef of the same
name; and even higher, surrounded by moors,
is 'Owd Betts', well known for its fine pub
menu.
From the centre of Norden heading down towards
the River Roch, is Naden Valley, a valley populated
by oak, birch, bracken and bramble and supporting
a growing bird life. Also from the centre, Greenbooth
Reservoirs can be reached. Embedded into its
steep valley slopes and covering Greenbooth
Village are set four reservoirs.
